A Natural Remedy for Chronic Dry Eyes

Since 2008, thousands of Flourish clients have obtained relief from dry eyes.

What is dry eye?

By: Keith Bishop

Dry eye is a common chronic eye surface issue that is characterized by a loss of tear film stability which allows the drainage of tears out of the eye, inflammation, pain, and vision impairment. Dry eye symptoms include:

  • Burning
  • Redness
  • Grittiness
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye fatigue
  • Watery eyes

9 Well known, but not very effective at-home remedies for dry eyes include:

You’ve probably tried several dry eye home remedies with little success. Some medications, autoimmune diseases, surgery, or even just getting older (I hate saying this one!) can cause your eyes to make fewer tears or the right type of tears.

  1. Blink more
  2. A warm compress over the eyes
  3. Eye wrap-around eyeglasses for protection from wind
  4. Daily cleaning of eyelids and lashes to reduce sweat, dirt, makeup, and acidic oil buildup that can irritate or clog your eye’s tear glands
  5. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air
  6. Use a high-quality air filter in your home and change it out frequently
  7. Stay hydrated – drink 8 glasses of water a day
  8. Eat more cold-water oily fish (No fried catfish doesn’t count!). More on this one later
  9. Avoid eye drops that contain preservatives since they may irritate your eyes

Why eye drops don’t work:

  • Non-prescription eye drops can supplement the tears in the eyes for up to an hour. After that, the lubrication is gone. You have to use them several times a day. What a hassle and not very effective!
  • Prescription dry eye drops can decrease autoimmune inflammation in the tear glands. But if you don’t have autoimmune inflammation these expensive drops don’t help much.
  • Non-prescription eye ointments may last longer but are messy, greasy, and oily so if someone uses them, they typically do only at bedtime. Few if any eye doctors recommend dry eye ointment anymore.

How I discovered the solution for dry eyes

In 2008, one of my clients was taking Flourish Moisture Solution capsules for her terribly dry and cracked heels. The kind of issue that snags hose and socks unless she did a pumice stone and file treatment each day. I recommend these capsules for dry skin, cracked heals, and arthritis because the active ingredient is found in the skin and joints. My client noticed after a month that not only did her heels look and feel better she didn’t have to use her lubricating eye drops. She asked if the dry heal supplement could help her eyes. I admit, I didn’t know, but learned in pharmacy school where to look. After researching the medical journals I discovered that the active ingredient in Flourish Moisture Solution was indeed one of the substances in your body that thickens tears and helps tears hold onto water.

Success Leads to Patient Study on Dry Eyes

In 2012, we asked Dr. Moore, O.D. to give Flourish Moisture Solution oral capsules to 12 of her patients that were taking Restasis eye drops. The Restasis drops did not provide adequate improvement in dry eye symptoms because they did not address the underlying cause of their dry eyes.

Within 30 days Flourish Moisture Solution oral capsule supplementation significantly improved all of her patient complaints of dry eye symptoms of:

  • Burning
  • Redness
  • Grittiness
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye fatigue
  • Watery eyes

Dr. Moore also found all 12 patients taking 30 days of Flourish Moisture Solution capsules had improved clinical in-office tests of:

  • Tear breakup time (TBUT)
  • Corneal spots of corneal fluorescein staining (CFS)
  • Schirmer test

Dr. Moore concluded that Flourish Moisture Solution oral capsules worked better than Rx or OTC eye drops.

Flourish Moisture Solution contains a natural, proprietary formula of extremely small particle size hyaluronic acid that is easily absorbed from the gut (stomach and intestines). Most oral hyaluronic acid is synthetic and too large of a particle that limits absorption from the gut.

Fast Forward to 2019 - A New Medical Study

The Journal of Ophthalmology published research of 54 patients in randomized control study showing the same type of results. Oral capsules containing the same active ingredient in Flourish Moisture Solution improved both dry eye symptoms and clinical doctor tests. The oral capsules worked better than dry eye drops. Study subjects saw dry eye improvement within 30 days. This confirms what I’ve known since 2008.

Even though medical research is being performed, Flourish Moisture Solution is a natural supplement that is available without a prescription.
