D-Mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar, closely related to glucose and found in cranberries, apples and several other fruits. Chemically it is a sugar, but the body handles it differently from the sugars you eat for energy. It is absorbed in the GI tract and then largely excreted unchanged in the urine, which is why it does not affect blood sugar regulation the way dietary sugar does.*
D-Mannose has been the subject of clinical study for urinary tract health. It is a dietary supplement, not a medicine, and it is not a substitute for medical care.
A 2 gram serving is a lot to swallow in capsule form, which is typically four to six capsules. The powder dissolves readily in water or unsweetened juice, tastes mildly sweet, and makes it straightforward to adjust the amount if your practitioner directs a different serving.
There are no fillers, binders or capsule shells. What is in the jar is D-Mannose.
Suggested use: take 1 level teaspoon, which is 2 grams, one to two times daily with water or unsweetened juice, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Drink a full glass of water with it. Some practitioners direct a different amount or a different schedule, and their direction takes precedence over the label.
What is D-Mannose powder used for?
It is taken to support urinary tract health, a normal bladder environment and a healthy mucosal lining.* It is a dietary supplement and it is not a treatment for any condition.
How much D-Mannose is in a serving?
2 grams per level teaspoon, with 43 servings per container.
Will D-Mannose raise my blood sugar?
D-Mannose is absorbed in the GI tract and rapidly excreted in the urine rather than being metabolised for energy, so it does not affect blood sugar regulation the way dietary sugar does.* If you manage diabetes, talk to your prescriber or a pharmacist before adding it.
Is D-Mannose the same as cranberry?
No. D-Mannose is a specific simple sugar that occurs in cranberries and other fruits. Cranberry supplements contain a broader mix of compounds including proanthocyanidins. They are different products and people sometimes use both.
Can I take D-Mannose every day?
The label directs one to two servings daily. Whether ongoing daily use is right for you is a question for your prescriber or a pharmacist, and it depends on why you are taking it.
How do I take the powder?
Stir a level teaspoon into a glass of water or unsweetened juice. It dissolves easily and tastes faintly sweet.
Does it contain allergens?
No. It is free from wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, yeast, egg, fish, shellfish and tree nuts.
Can I take it with my medication?
Call a Flourish pharmacist at 405-751-3333 and read out your list. It takes two minutes and it is the right way to find out.
Urinary symptoms are one of the most common reasons people reach for a supplement, and they are also one of the situations where a supplement is sometimes the wrong answer. If you have symptoms now, contact your healthcare provider. If you want to talk through whether D-Mannose fits what you are already taking, call 405-751-3333 and a Flourish pharmacist will help.
